Snodgrass, 87, formerly of Iola, KS, died in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas today, July 2, 2009, from complications following a massive stroke on June 19. He was born May 13, 1922 in Ely, Kansas, the son of Leslie R. Snodgrass and the former Lillie Lefever. He grew up in Iola, KS, graduated from Iola High School in 1942. Snodgrass, 87, formerly of Iola, KS, died in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas today, July 2, 2009, from complications following a massive stroke on June 19. He was born May 13, 1922 in Ely, Kansas, the son of Leslie R. Snodgrass and the former Lillie Lefever. He grew up in Iola, KS, graduated from Iola High School in 1942. His formal education was interrupted by World War II. He picked up his studies again in the 1960s and earned a degree from Allen County Community College in the mid-1960s. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He married Louann Stoddard Nov. 31, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas. He retired from Monarch Cement Plant in Humboldt, KS, after 34 years. He retired as plant engineer in 1986. He then began a second career as a self-made architect. He designed more than 100 homes and an untold number of additions and remodels to existing homes. He and his wife, Louann, have lived in Bella Vista, AR, since his retirement from the Monarch Cement Co. some years ago. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as deacon and elder and several terms as chairman of the board. He was a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and took a particular interest in Shriners Hospital for Children, arranging transportation for children to and from hospitals for many years. He was also a member of the Rotary Club in Bella Vista. He is survived by his wife, of the home; a daughter, Deanna Neuner, Parksville, MO; and a son, Larry, Skiatook, OK; a brother, Max, Iola, KS; a sister, Vada Aikins, Humboldt, KS; and two grandchildren. His body will be cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date at Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS.
