He enlisted in the United States Army in 1940, he served in Europe for 18 months and was discharged as a Sergeant in 1945. He was married to Clarice Irene Cook, on May 20, 1941 at Lancaster, Missouri. They have owned and operated Colbert Oil Company and lived in Hayesville since 1945. (Phyllis) Hicklin and one brother, Jim Colbert.
