Read More	Dale Eugene Barton, son of John Dale Barton and Helen Eulalie Sanders Barton, was born August 20, 1923 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 90 years of age. Gene attended high school in Brighton Colorado. He left school to join the United States Army before World War II. During the war, he served in Iceland and England and was with the 5th Army from the invasion of France to the German surrender in 1945. He attained the rank of corporal. He was united in marriage with Joanne Eugenia Robins on February 2, 1946 in Seneca, Kansas and three children blessed this union. After leaving Osceola in 1948, Dale and Joanne lived in various places in Colorado, California, Arizona and New Mexico. Dale worked as a long-line truck driver for Yellow Freight for thirty years. In 1973, the National Safety Council named him New Mexico Driver of the Year for over one million miles of accident-free driving. Gene and Joanne retired back to Osceola in 1983. In his leisure time, Gene enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, boating, piloting his private plane and riding his Harley Motorcycle. Gene was an avid reader of non-fiction, especially history. After moving back to Osceola, he played his guitars at the country music jams in Woodburn and also enjoyed keeping a small herd of cattle. Those relatives who preceded Gene in death were his parents, his sister, Helen Lorene Slimmer and his son, James Eugene Barton who died serving his country in Vietnam. Also, passed were his aunts: Glida Kerns, Verna Westbrook, Violet McDonnell, Ruby Strohmeier and Winona Riley and his uncles: Dan Sanders, Bernard Sanders and Orville Sanders.
