A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at First Congregational United Church of Christ by the Rev. Bob David. Survivors include a brother, Harold "Hal" Harrison of Concord, N.H.; nephews, Jeremy (Danielle) Harrison of South Hampton, Mass. and David Harrison of Springfield, Vt.; friends, Terry (Julie) and Lucy Schneekloth of Cedar Rapids and Jeanne Fellner of Marion; and all his friends including those from his Mount Mercy and First Congregational Communities. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Harrison. Dale was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Cromwell, Iowa, to Warren Clinton and Mary Elizabeth (Baird) Harrison. He received a bachelor's degree from Iowa Teacher's College and his Master's Degree from the University of Iowa. Dale was an educator at Chariton High School, University High School in Iowa City, and Mount Mercy College, retiring in 2006. He taught Business Education and Business Management. Dale was inducted into the Mount Mercy Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992 recognized for his overwhelming support to Mount Mercy athletics. While at Mount Mercy, he was the faculty athletic representative for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Commencement Marshall and the chair of Commencement Committee from 1970 to 2006. While he was an avid traveler and devoted to his church community, Mount Mercy was at the center of Dale's heart. Everyone in the Mount Mercy Community knew and loved Dale. The Hall of Famer attended countless Mount Mercy athletic events where he was often playfully introduced as "Mount Mercy's #1 fan. The Man, the Myth, the Legend!" No one will ever be able to fill his seat in the stands. Dale's family and friends would like to thank the staffs at Northbrook Manor and Summit Pointe for the outstanding care provided to Dale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dale Harrison Endowed Mount Mercy Scholarship at 1300 Elmhurst Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402; or First Congregation Church at 361 17th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
