He was born June 11, 1910 in Floris to Samuel Eugene & Buelah Martin Hining. He married Vera Mae Hastings on May 31, 1936 in Fairfield. He worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works for 27 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Floris Christian Church. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and the Wallace B. Schafer Post #775 VFW of Ottumwa. He was the mayor of Floris for 22 years. He was a leader of obtaining the rural water system for Floris and surrounding areas. He is survived by his wife, Vera of Floris, a son Dennis of Houston, Texas; two grsons; 2 ggrdaus. and a sister Veona Newell of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leonard and a sister Rebecca. Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home in Bloomfield, the Rev. Don Macy officiating. Burial will be held in Floris Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the O.B. Nelson Post #3 of American Legion and the Wallace B. Shafer Post # 775 of Ottumwa. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Casket bearers will be Reo & Ira Hining, Greg Comer, Richard McClure, Steve Howard and Scott Liles. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Foundation or the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
