Mr. Fochtman, was born June 7, 1921, near Callaway, Neb. to Fred and Hattie (Martin) Fochtman. Dale attended rural school near Callaway. Fochtman, 88, of Lincoln, died Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Grand Island Veteran's Home in Grand Island. Mr. Fochtman, was born June 7, 1921, near Callaway, Neb. to Fred and Hattie (Martin) Fochtman. Dale attended rural school near Callaway. He entered the U.S. Army on August 26, 1942, and received an honorable discharge on January 2, 1946. He married Shirley E. Aunspaugh on May 24, 1946, at Marysville, Kan. They made their home in Gothenburg where Dale worked for the public schools. They later lived in Kearney where he owned and operated his own refrigeration sales and service. They then moved to Lincoln, where Dale worked as a pneumatic control technician for the University of Nebraska. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lincoln and the American Legion. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Shirley Fochtman of the Grand Island Veteran's Home; two daughters, Susan Fochtman of Lincoln and Nancy Platt of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Vivian Geiser of Worland, Wyo. Additional survivors include son-in-law, John Platt; and two grandsons, Joe and Drew Platt. Mr. Fochtman's wishes were for his body to be cremated. Inurnment of the cremains will be at a later date in the Christ United Methodist Church columbarium at Lincoln. Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to the family through the funeral home.
