Bernita is the daughter of Lloyd and Alma (Gray) Parker, who moved from Oakland, Iowa to a farm in the Rorbeck community in 1934. Dale is one of twin sons of Frank and Anna (Jensen) Doonan. Both of Dale's paternal grandparents, Thomas and Sarah Alwill Doonan, were born in Ireland and came to Shelby County in 1881. His maternal grandparents, Christian and lngeborg Hansen Jensen were born in Denmark and came to Shelby County in 1882 and 1876, respectively. For three years after their marriage, the Dale Doonans farmed in Audubon County and in Monroe Township, Shelby County. Then in 1944 they moved to the farm formerly known as the Matt Lorensen Place in section 29, Jackson Township. With their son Kelly they still operate this farm. Dale and Bernita have two sons Kelly is married to the former Judi French and lives in one of the two houses on the farm, and Jay is married to the former Teresa Cornell and lives in Council Bluffs. He works in the Pottawattamie County Auditors Office, and she is an Elementary Teacher. Dale was active in 4-H work on both local and county levels for twelve years, and both Kelly and Jay were active 4-H members and served as county officers. Dale has been a member of the Board of Directors of both the Shelby County Beef Producers and Pork Producers Associations. He served for a number of years as a Jackson Township Trustee, and was on first the Study Committee, then the Steering Committee for School Reorganization. Bernita was a member of the Family Living Committee for three years, and belongs to the M.Y.N. Club. Throughout their married life they have worked and worshipped in Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church. There are two grandchildren, Judi's and Kelley's Sons Stacy and Gregory, born Feb. 28, 1974.
