Description	:	Dale G Ulch 88 died Tuesday at St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Vining with the Jennings-Bradshaw American Legion Post #39, Belle Plaine, providing military rites. Dale Gordon Ulch was born at home in Elberon, Iowa. The son of Fred and Tillie Vochaska Ulch. He received his education from the one room schoolhouse in Elberon. After graduation he was a farmhand. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Vining with the Jennings-Bradshaw American Legion Post #39, Belle Plaine, providing military rites. Dale Gordon Ulch was born at home in Elberon, Iowa. The son of Fred and Tillie Vochaska Ulch. He received his education from the one room schoolhouse in Elberon. After graduation he was a farmhand. He met his sweetheart, Ruth Ann Weaver, in the fall of 1944. They decided to postpone marriage until Dale returned from the Naval Service during WWII. Dale was stationed on the Iowa Class battleship, USS Missouri, from 1944 to 1946. And as a Seaman First Class, spotted for the 5 inch guns. He was always proud of his navy days, especially his witness of the formal surrender ceremonies of the Japanese in Tokyo Harbor in August 1945. Dale and Ruth were married on November 29, 1947. They were the parents of three children; Bev, Doris and Robert. They spent 22 years farming Ruth's parents' farm. He later worked for Dutch Ehlen in Belle Plaine and then for Sindt Implement in Keystone until his retirement. Dale enjoyed nature including fishing, camping and making wood. He had many kinds of wine. He enjoyed playing cards, listening and dancing to polkas and country music. He was always ready with a quick joke and good advice to his friends and family.
