Erlewine, 73, of Yakima, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Garden Village in Yakima. Mr. Erlewine was born in Tekamah, Nebraska on October 20, 1934. He was the youngest of four siblings of Ida and George Erlewine. His father passed away when he was five years old. At that time, he moved with his mother to Potter, Nebraska and attended Potter schools. He graduated in 1952. Dale married Eileen KIentz on June 27, 1954. They set up housekeeping in a new house in Sidney, Nebraska and proceeded to have four children, Debra, Neal, Dale and Linda. The family moved to Yakima, Washington in1965 for a better life. Dale worked as a brake and front end mechanic at Firestone for several years. He later owned "Dale's Safety Service". His eldest son worked side by side in the shop with him. Later Dad worked at Tire Sales and Service for several years until his health forced early retirement. Dad taught his children right from wrong and the value of a good work ethic. He had his own unique way of encouraging his children to always do their best and to never do anything halfway. He always said, "If you are going to do something, do it right!" He once told his oldest daughter that he graduated in the top 10 of his class. Only later did she find out there was only l0 in his class. Mom and Dad celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last week on 6/27/08. During their marriage they were fortunate to be able to travel to Germany to meet their first grandchild. They also enjoyed seeing other parts of the United States. During their younger years, Mom and Dad enjoyed going out for a nice meal and dancing. Saturday nights were special. Dale enjoyed family time, whether it was salmon fishing, hunting, camping or just getting together for a good meal. He loved following his grandkids sports and school activities, and watching the Seahawks and the Mariners. Dad was never one to have a lot to say, but when he talked you listened. He was soft-spoken, kind, loyal and had a great sense of humor. We will miss him. Thank you Garden Village, Dr. Pommer, Dr. Cleary at NorthStar, Dr. Palmer Wright, Yakima Chest Clinic and the staff at YVMH 3rd floor for their care and kindness. Survivors include his wife Eileen Erlewine of Yakima, two sons, Neal (Sandy) Erlewine of Yakima; Dale A. Erlewine of Kettle Falls: two daughters, Deb (Tim) Funkhouser of Selah, Linda (Bryan) Powell of Selah; eight grandchildren, Lynn (Buck) Noel, Ryan Erlewine, Kyler Powell, Chase Powell, Allyson Powell, Misty Sullivan, Shane Sullivan and Jeff (Sallee) Funkhouser; and 4 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Iola Erlewine of Kansas City; and Inez Jessop of Loon Lake, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents Ida and George Erlewine, his parent-in-laws Frank and Vera KIentz, his brother Donald Erlewine, nephew Kenneth Erlewine, and nephew Larry Nordstrom. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July l0th at 10:00 AM. at West Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
