Dale Richard Rotnicke was born January 31, 1938 in rural Danbury, Iowa, the son of Frank and Elsie (Wessel) Rotnicke. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith and confirmed in April of 1953 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. He attended school in Danbury. In 1956, Dale entered the United States Army, serving until 1958. On October 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Rohde at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The couple moved east of Mapleton where they farmed for 12 years. It was during this time that their three children were born. They then moved to a farm south of Mapleton where they farmed until 1990 when they moved into Mapleton. Dale and Phyllis owned and operated the D and P Lounge in Mapleton for eight years. Dale was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton as well as the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. He liked bowling, and playing cards and really enjoyed fishing. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. Dale worked, lived and loved hard, living life to its fullest. Those survivors left to cherish his memory include Phyllis, his wife of 44 years; two sons and their wives, Ron and Lisa Rotnicke of Turin, Iowa and their four children, Scout, Kade, Gage, and Ariel and Mick and Kris Rotnicke of Mapleton, Iowa and their two children, Korey and Kelsey; one daughter and her husband, Shelly and Larry Boyle of Danbury, Iowa; two sisters, Loretta Reimers of Schleswig, Iowa and Kay Ingram and her husband, Roger, of Mapleton, Iowa along with other relatives and many good friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and one half sister, Elsie Sievers. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Korey Rotnicke, Kelsey Rotnicke, Scout Rotnicke, Kade Rotnicke, Gage Rotnicke, Ariel Rotnicke. Pallbearers were Russ Reed, Daryl Ingram, Tim Rohde, Jim Fried, Marvin Kruse and Howard Kruse. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
