Read More	Dale "Sam" Smith Gnegy Born: Fri., Dec. 5, 1930 Died: Sun., Sep. 14, 2014 Dale “Sam” Smith Gnegy, 83, of Oakland died on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on December 5, 1930 in Douglas, WV, he was the son of the late Homer L. and Thelma Charlotte Ann (Smith) Gnegy. He was a graduate of Oakland High School after which he entered the Air Force and served as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. After his service to our country, he attended Penn Technical Institute in Pittsburgh. Dale worked for the former Ace Radio and Electric in Oakland and for Naylor’s Hardware as a TV repairman. He worked for Bausch and Lomb for sixteen and a half years as a department supervisor and retired in December of 1987 while diligently working the family farm his entire life. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Red House where he served on the church council, property committee and as usher chairperson for many years. He was a member of the Maryland Farm Bureau, a life member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 in Oakland and the National Rifle Association of America. In addition to spending time with his family, Dale enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane (Roth) Gnegy, to whom he married on June 10th, 1956; his children, Diane Donham and husband Randy of Oakland, Linda Lindsey and husband Rob of McHenry and Samuel Gnegy and wife Cindy of Oakland; grandchildren, Victoria Leap and husband John, Jennifer Donham, Joni Gnegy, Shanie Gnegy and Megan Lindsey; great grandchildren, Ava Leap and Abbi Leap; a sister, Elaine Roth of Horse Shoe Run, WV; a brother in law and sister in law, Earl and Alice Roth of Renick, WV; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Norma Gnegy and brothers, Wayne Gnegy and Glenn “Mote” Gnegy. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, September 16th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Red House on Wednesday, September 17th from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Regina Beard officiating. Interment will follow in the Red House Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or The Red House Lutheran Cemetery Association, 3301 Garrett Hwy., Oakland, MD 21550.
