He was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Howard County, the son of Walter William and Frances M. (Latta) Hensler. On April 4, 1965, in Kokomo, he married Wanda J. Padgett. She survives. Hensler, 77, Kokomo, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. He was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Howard County, the son of Walter William and Frances M. (Latta) Hensler. On April 4, 1965, in Kokomo, he married Wanda J. Padgett. She survives. He graduated from Greentown High School in 1949. He was an inspector at Chrysler, retiring in 1998 after 39 years of service. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason at the Howard Lodge 93 F&AM, member of the Scottish Rite, Indianapolis, member of the York Rite, Kokomo, member of the Murat Shriners, Indianapolis and Kokomo, and 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He loved woodworking, fishing, riding his motorcycle, golfing and bowling. He bowled for the Men's Bowling Association in Kokomo, where he won two gold medals at the White River State Park Games. He started the Honey Creek Mission, which became the Honey Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Russiaville. Survivors include his wife, Wanda J. Hensler, Kokomo; two sons, Brian L. Hensler, Indianapolis, and James W. Hensler and wife Shelia, Kokomo; two daughters, Connie M. Hensler, South Bend, Sherri Crowell and husband Michael, Kokomo; a brother, Walter William "Bill" Hensler Jr. and wife Kathleen, Michigan; five grandchildren, Jared D. Hensler, Allison K. Crowell, Braden M. Crowell, Jacob D, Hensler and Lilian M. Hensler; two stepgrandchildren, Shane S. Crowell and Khalee A. Crowell (USMC); and two special friends, Paul Robinson and Janet Schlarb. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dorthy (Chapman) Hensler, and a son, Gene Allen Hensler. Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastors Jeff Harlow and Jim Clark officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, Kokomo. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the mortuary with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Howard Lodge 93 F&AM. The family will accept flowers, but would appreciate memorial contributions to the National Parkinson's Foundation or the Howard Masonic Lodge 93. Envelopes are available in the mortuary.
