Retired from textiles, Mr. Smith was a Mason, Shriner, member of the Gideons, served on the boards of directors of Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, Cherokee County Boys and Girls Club and the Will Lou Grey School in Columbia, member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church where he was a deacon, teacher, member of the Andrew Club, and taught a Sunday School class at Magnolias... Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Caroline (Lewis) Smith and son of the late Ervin Eugene Smith and Ruth (Lavender) Smith. Retired from textiles, Mr. Smith was a Mason, Shriner, member of the Gideons, served on the boards of directors of Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, Cherokee County Boys and Girls Club and the Will Lou Grey School in Columbia, member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church where he was a deacon, teacher, member of the Andrew Club, and taught a Sunday School class at Magnolias of Gaffney. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sharon Miller of Gaffney; a son, Dane Smith of Gaffney; two sisters, Virginia Truluck and Sue Melton, both of Gaffney; and four grandchildren. Visitation was 7:00 to 8:30 Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001 at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Frank Northcutt, Stuart Kersey and Dr. Clyde Thomas. Burial was at Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials could be made to Gideons International, 835 W. Floyd Baker Blvd., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; Meals on Wheels, P.O.
