Description	:	Dan Porter Kelley, 84, of Danville died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Danville Care Center after a battle with cancer. Born November 25, 1928, in Danville, Iowa, he was the son of Will and Mary Nielsen Kelley. He married Doris Brumley on February 6, 1949. Mr. Kelley was a graduate of Danville High School. He was employed by Don Oberman as a gravel truck driver before taking a position as a teller at Danville State Savings Bank in 1949. Read More	Dan Porter Kelley, 84, of Danville died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Danville Care Center after a battle with cancer. Born November 25, 1928, in Danville, Iowa, he was the son of Will and Mary Nielsen Kelley. He married Doris Brumley on February 6, 1949. Mr. Kelley was a graduate of Danville High School. He was employed by Don Oberman as a gravel truck driver before taking a position as a teller at Danville State Savings Bank in 1949. Drafted in January of 1952 into the Army, Mr. Kelley served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He returned in 1954 to the Danville Bank where he became Executive Vice President in 1970 and President in 1982. He retired from active banking in 1993, but remained as Chairman of the Board until his death. He was a 50 year member of the Iowa Bankers Association, served on the Iowa Bankers Insurance and Services Board, a former Fire Chief of the Danville Fire Department, past president of the Danville School Board and a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon and Moderator. Mr. Kelley served on many community boards including Jaggar Cemetery, Prairie Grove Cemetery and the Danville Enhancement Committee. An avid musician, he was a member of the Overtones, a local barbershop chorus and Half Past Four, a barbershop quartet. Mr. Kelley also sang in several cantatas at Harmony Bible Church. He was a 50 year member of the Danville Lodge #48 AF&AM. He enjoyed traveling, barbershop, tractors and spending time with his family. People will best remember Mr. Kelley for his kindness in his position at the Danville Bank and for his enthusiasm for barbershop singing, especially at Valentine's Day when his quartets would bring singing Valentines to Southeast Iowa. The quartet also performed the National Anthem at many Burlington Bees' baseball games and performed every year at the Midwest Old Threshers. Survivors include his wife, Doris of Danville; two sons, Roger (Kathleen) Kelley of Robins, IA, and Faron (RK) Kelley of Windermere, FL; two daughters, Kalen (Mike) Henderson of Mt. Pleasant and Dayna (Joe) Brandenburg of Palmyra, MO; eight grandchildren, Taylor (Michael) Williams of Monroe City, MO, Alex (Katie) Brandenburg of Hannibal, MO, Abby Brandenburg of Celebration, FL, Whitney (David) Rogers of Orlando, FL, Bryn (Kayla) Henderson of Grinnell, IA, Mallory Henderson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Connor and Callie Kelley of Windermere, FL.; and two great-grandchildren, Brynn and Drew Williams of Monroe City, MO. He is also survived by a sister, Bonnie Clyman of Bloomfield, IA, and a brother, Marvin Kelley of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dale, Robert and Jim Kelley; six sisters, Wilma Kuhns, Wanda Magel, Dolly Phebus, Ruth Soergel, Frances Gillaspie and Mary Lou Stuffelbeam and one infant daughter, Janette. The Memorial Service for Mr. Kelley will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Danville. Pastors Matt Yaley and Dan Buck will officiate. Visitation will begin after noon on Thursday, January 10, at Elliott Chapel, New London. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel. According to his wishes, Mr. Kelley will be cremated following visitation with private family inurnment in Jaggar Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Jaggar Cemetery Association and the Prairie Grove School Restoration Project. Contributions and cards may be sent to 505 South First Ave., Danville, Iowa 52623, with checks to the Prairie Grove Project made out to Prairie Grove Cemetery Association with "School Restoration" in the memo line.
