Mr. Dan Ray, 100, widower of Mrs. Donnie Belle Gerrald Ray, and of Nichols, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Ray was born May 4, 1917 in Horry County, a son of the late Joseph Ray and the late Minnie Cannon Ray. Mr. Ray was a World War II veteran, serving in Northern Africa, where he was taken as a POW. After being captured, Mr. Ray was sent back to Germany to Stalag VII-A, where he was held for two year and two months. After his release, Mr. Ray returned to the States, where he became a farmer and also worked as a mill worker. Mr. Ray was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Ray are a son, Daniel D. Ray of Marion; 2 grandsons; and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Ray was predeceased by his wife, Donnie Belle Gerrald Ray. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service, Wednesday, July 19 from 4:00 until 5:00 P.M. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 19 in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Alvin Jackson and Rev. Benji Hutson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. - Cox Collins Funeral Home
