Description	:	DROWNED IN THE NEOSHO- Dana Wandschneider of Sherman was drowned Sunday at noon at the Gillette ford on the Neosho river about five miles southwest of Sherman. He said, however, that he... Read More	DROWNED IN THE NEOSHO- Dana Wandschneider of Sherman was drowned Sunday at noon at the Gillette ford on the Neosho river about five miles southwest of Sherman. A team of horses also perished with him. Wandschneider was with his brother-in-law, John Schierenberg, and another man, whose name we did not learn, also of Sherman. They drove to the stream with intentions of fording it, but the other men cautioned Wandschneider that it was not safe to drive in, as there was a three foot raise in the river, caused by the heavy rain Friday night. He said, however, that he would drive in a short distance and wash the horses off. It seems that a hole had been washed out in the ford, and when the horses struck the deep water, a colt which was tied to the side of one of the horses, was washed around in front of the team. Wandschneider got out and took the halter off the colt so it could swim to shore, but the rest of the outfit, including the men, was washed down stream, Wandschneider staying on top for a quarter of a mile, then going under, did not come up again. The other men, however, managed to swim to shore and save their lives. The body of the drowned man was taken from the water with hooks. The deceased was but twenty-five years of age and leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss. He is a nephew of Mrs. Geo Merrill of this city, and for several years made his home 4 miles southeast of town. He was well known in that vicinity and leaves many friends to mourn his loss, and who extend a sympathetic hand to the bereaved relatives. The funeral services were held from the Sherman School house Monday, conducted by Rev. H.I. Dolson of this city, and the remains were laid to rest in the McCune cemetery.
