Description	:	Daniel Bell, son of Susan (née Butler) and Robert Bell, was born in Salem Township, Steuben County, Indiana. Daniel was named after his maternal grandfather. Daniel Bell and Miss Diantha Van Wagner were married on 25 November 1875 in Richland County, Ohio. As Daniel had not yet attained the age of 21, his mother gave her consent. As Daniel had not yet attained the age of 21, his mother gave her consent. Both the Bell and Van Wagner families had resided in Richland County, Ohio, before moving to Steuben County, Indiana. The Van Wagners later returned to Ohio. Daniel Bell's death, from consumption (tuberculosis), was reported in the Steuben Republican, Angola, Indiana, 1 November 1876, page 3. In 1880, his widow (who did not remarry) was working as a servant in neighboring Branch County, Michigan. Their daughter Abigail was then living with her grandmother Susan Bell. Notes Date of birth—23 May 1855—is from unconfirmed secondary sources; possibly calculated from headstone inscription, now difficult to read. This date is consistent with Susan Bell's 19 Nov 1875 marriage consent for "my Son Daniel Bell, who is over Twenty Years of age," but not yet 21, as well as Daniel Bell's age reported in the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Censuses. Find A Grave contributor Kennetta Lemon examined the inscription in May 2020, estimating that the date of death line includes "Oct" and "1876"; the age line includes "5" for the number of months.
