Read More	Death certificate states YOB as 1850 ------------------- DANIEL BENTON CLINGAN Daniel, son of Jesse and Mary Clingan, was born in Miami County, Ohio, September 14, 1849. In the year 1875 he was united in marriage to Susannah S., daughter of of Leonard and Hannah Slaybaugh. To this union were born two daughters, both of whom died in infancy. Also with this wife came a son, C. A. West, now of Hudson, on whom he extended a father's loving care and good teaching. On June 18, 1893, he was bereft of a loving wife, she having passed to the great beyond. On May 31, 1894, he was united in marriage to Nancy (Hissong) Zongker. Also with this wife came a son, Glenn Zongker. Again he extended a father's kindness and loving care on this son, with whom he made his home at the time of his death. Mr. Clingan possessed an abundance of wit, humor and toleration, which made him a favorite of a family of five boys and four girls and the young people with whom he grew to manhood. His sense of loyalty to family and friends grew only more intense with years and was the source of keen delight derived from visits to his early home. When a young man, Mr. Clingan moved from his birthplace into the vicinity of Hudson-Ashley, Indiana, in which location the remainder of his life was spent. He united with the Church of Christ early in life and was for many years elder in this church. Being a careful student of the Scriptures, he delighted in discussion of the same, not only in his Bible class, but whenever opportunity presented itself. Through the guise of sorrow, sickness and bereavement, Mr. Clingan was able always to behold God's angels, radiant with the glory and the calm of having looked upon the smile of God. Mr. Clingan's life ended May 13, 1920. He has returned to his Father's home, leaving here a loving wife, two (step) sons, three great grandchildren, one brother, two sisters, (one sister, Mrs. George Slaybaugh, who came to this state with him in early life, having passed away just six months ago.), a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church in Ashley, Sunday, May 16, at 10 o'clock, by Elder J. 0. Rose of Angola, with a large audience of relatives, neighbors and friends, the burial taking place in Circle cemetery, Hudson, Indiana.
