Description	:	obit June 28, 1942 "Lincoln Star", Lincoln, Nebraska Daniel Coon, son of Orlana Coon and Elizabeth Michel was born April 29, 1857, 1 1/2 mile south of Germantown, Washington County, Ohio. He came to Nebraska with his parents at the age of 11, soon after the Civil War. They were among the first settlers of Hall County, homesteading south of Woodriver. Read More	obit June 28, 1942 "Lincoln Star", Lincoln, Nebraska Daniel Coon, son of Orlana Coon and Elizabeth Michel was born April 29, 1857, 1 1/2 mile south of Germantown, Washington County, Ohio. He came to Nebraska with his parents at the age of 11, soon after the Civil War. They were among the first settlers of Hall County, homesteading south of Woodriver. His father, who had fought for the North, died the next year, leaving his widow with eight small children to "carry-on" on the western plains. All have preceded Daniel in death. He married Ella Jane Van Buren at Nebraska City on his 29th birthday, April 1886. He took his bride overland to Shelton, Nebraska where they farmed until 1911. when they moved to Elmwood. From 1925 to 1937 he operated a resident grocery store on North 29th street, Lincoln, Nebraska. He is survived by his widow and four children; a son Floid L. of Omaha and 3 daughters. Mrs J.P. Mills of Fall River Mills, California, Mrs F. Lee Wolfley, Omaha, and Mrs. Floyd E. Morgan, Lincoln. There are 3 granddaughters, six grandsons and 4 great grandchildren. One daughter Etta May, passed away December 21, 1925. Mr. Coon was the oldest resident in the vicinity of Elmwood. Services were held from the Elmwood Methodist Church, Monday June 29th, Rev.C.E. Lind officiating. Burial in Elmwood cemetery. Clements Mortuary in charge. The following relatives from out of town came to Elmwood to attend the funeral: Mrs. Pearl E. Mills of Fall River Mills, California, Mr and Mrs. F.L. Wolfley and daughter, Omaha, and Mr. and Mrs F.E. Morgan and daughter of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs Floid L. Coon and son of Omaha, Mr and Mrs Floyd Blue of Shelton, Nebr; Mr and Mrs Sammy Stener and daughter of Unadilla, Nebraska. ______________ "Daniel Coon was remembered as quiet, a farmer and horse-trader, loved his gardens of flowers and veggies and raised rabbits. He ran a store and made small things from wood like his daughter Flossie's doll table. He played fiddle for square-dancing and called out and sang." _____________
