Daniel Debord was born c. March 27, 1830/31 in Kentucky. It is not known for certain who his parents were, but they are believed to be William Debord and Emily (Darnell) Debord. William DeBord was born c. 1800 in North Carolina and was married on June 13, 1829 in Pulaski County, Kentucky to Emily Darnell. Emily Darnell is believed to have been born c. 1812/13, the daughter of Nelson Darnell. This may have been a 2nd marriage for William Debord for at the time of the 1840 census, the following family is found in Pulaski County, Kentucky; William Deboard family 1 male 40 to 50 1 male 20 to 30 1 male 15 to 20 1 male 10 to 15 2 males 5 to 10 1 female 20 to 30
The female between 20 and 30 is probably Emily. The three younger males, probably, Daniel Debord, Nelson Debord and Jefferson Debord are probably her children. The male between 15 and 20 and the male between 20 and 30, if sons of William's, could not be her children. They could, of course, be brothers of William who are living with William Debord. William Debord is believed to have died c. 1843 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. An Emily Debord is found to have been married to a Lambert Thompson on March 11, 1850 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. Did our Emily then also remarry? In any case, Daniel Debord was married to Louisa Brown on October 26, 1855 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. Louisa Brown was born c. 1830/31, the daughter of Stephen Brown and Barbara Miller. Louisa is believed to have had a brother named Daniel Brown. Shortly after they were married, Daniel and Louisa were on their way to Illinois. From the middle 1840's through the 1850's more than 15 or 20 members of the Debord family made the trek from Pulaski County, Kentucky to Peoria County, where they settled on farms in Princeville and Akron Townships. Twenty years later, in 1862, four of the male members of the family would enlist in what was to become Co. K of the 86th Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry. The children born to William Debord and Louisa (Brown) Debord include; 1. Sydney Ellen Debord, born c. December 31, 1856 in Illinois, probably in or near Princeville, Peoria County, Illinois. Ellen was married to Charles Kaufman in Holt County, Missouri. Charles Kaufman was born on October 2, 1856. At least two children were born to Ellen and Charles, including; A. Jennie M. Kaufman, born ___________ __, 1896 in Missouri. Jennie was married to _____________ Colwell. Jennie died on ____________ __, 1964.

5. Ida J. Debord, born c. January __, 1865/66/67 in either Princeville, Peoria County, Illinois or Holt County, Missouri. Ida is with the family in the 1870 census, but, I find nothing of her after this.

I can not locate him or the family in the 1800 census and I find nothing of Mason E. Debord after the 1920 census.
At the time of the 1860 census, Daniel Debord and his family, along with two other older members of the Debord family, Nelson and Jefferson Debord, probably brothers of Daniel's, are found in Princeville Township, Peoria County, Illinois; Daniel Debord M 29 Kentucky Louisa Debord F 29 Kentucky Sidney Debord F 3 Ills Frances E Debord F 1 Ills Nelson Debord M 27 Kentucky Jefferson Debord M 25 Kentucky
There are apparently some members of the family that believe that the Debords left for Missouri during the Civil War. With so many male members of the family, two brothers and two consins, away in the service of the Union army and the difficulty that it must have been to try and move from Illinois to a border state, like Missouri, with a war going on, it would be difficult to believe that part of a well established would pull up roots and try to start over in Missouri with a war going on. Plus none of the census records I have seen to date, give any hint of any family member being born in Missouri before 1870. There is little doubt the first four children were all born in Illinois. Ida J. Debord is the first member of the family who I believe could have been born outside of Illinois and I would like to see more records about her. That 1870 census, states she was even born in Illinois. After the Civil War was over, in the late 1860's, many of the Debord's, Daniel and Louisa included, moved their growing family to Missouri, where Daniel and Louisa initially are found in Knob Noster, Washington Township, Johnson County, Missouri at the time of the 1870 census; Daniel Debord M 40 Kentucky Louisa Debord F 38 Kentucky Ellen Debord F 14 Illinois Mary Debord F 9 Illinois William Debord M 6 Illinois Ida Debord F 4 Illinois Emma Debord F 11 Illinois
I have yet to find the Debords in the 1880 census. By the time of the 1890 Veterans census, Jefferson Debord, who served in Co. K of the 86th Illinois has joined the family in Missouri. He is found in Holt County, Missouri. Louisa (Brown) Debord died on March 10, 1892 in Graham, Nodaway County, Missouri. After Louisa's death, Daniel Debord went west to Kansas to live with some of his children. Daniel DeBord was in Nehama County, Kansas with a couple of his children according to the 1900 census. Daniel Debord died on October 24, 1903 in either, Maitland, Holt County, Missouri or in Kansas. If he died in Kansas, at least according to the Historical Society in Holt County, Missouri, "Daniel Debord is buried in the Graham Cemetery in Graham, Nodaway County, Missouri, who was born in 1830 in Pulaski CO KY. Graham is just over the county line from Maitland."

(Baxter would enjoy hearing from anyone, who might be able to add to the biographical information that we have on the Debord family in Missouri. Baxter would also like to see pictures of Daniel Debord, Nelson Debord and Jefferson Debord added to their sites as well as pictures of their two cousins, Henry Debord and John Debord for the Princeville Historical Society and all with an interest. Thanks!)
