The death occurred here at the family residence in Francesville. For many years he had been a sufferer from kidney trouble and its complications, and only a constitution of remarkable vitality, made strong by outdoor life, could have endured the strain so long. For many years he had been a sufferer from kidney trouble and its complications, and only a constitution of remarkable vitality, made strong by outdoor life, could have endured the strain so long. Daniel Engle was born 79 years ago in Dearborn Co., this state. At age twenty-three he married Catherine Hubbell; she departed this life in 1851; to this union a son was born, J. C. Engle of this place. He was afterwards married to his wife's widowed sister, Mrs. Sylvia Shane; to this union four children were born, three of which died in infancy, and a son Joseph A. Engle of this place survives. For his third wife he took Mrs. Martha Ren, who died a short time after marriage. The widow that now survives was formerly Mrs. Sarah Emrick. Mr. Engle leaves to mourn, a wife, two sons, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, a number of relatives and a wide circle of friends. The deceased was a good citizen, industrious and thrifty, and a veteran of the Civil War. He always liked the simple pioneer life and didn't care much for display. He was a member of the Francesville Methodist church from which his funeral occurred Saturday morning. His remains were escorted to the cemetery by the members of the Masonic fraternity.
