He was born on the farm where he lived the long life that was granted him. His parents came from Lancaster county, Pa., in 1806, when the city of Newark was but a straggling village, a few dozen log cabins. Under his eye all the growth and development of Newark had taken place. Early in life he vitally connected himself with Jesus Christ, and for a few years was a member of the Methodist Church. Prayerfully reading the Bible brought to him the conviction that the Baptists were more fully in accord with its teachings, and he asked for and received membership in the Baptist Church. For many years he served as deacon, and when feebleness was upon him and he could render no active service, he was re-elected, at the expiration of each term. His service to God was always without ostentation and humbly rendered. His life was marked by a simplicity of faith that took the promises and relied on them, nothing doubting. He leaves five children to reflect upon his example, his wife having preceded him in death by thirty years. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." ELIJAH B. JONES The American, (Newark) April, 1894 A Good Man Gone. In the death of Daniel Forry Newark loses one of her oldest and most highly esteemed citizens. He was born in 1808 on the farm where he died. An active member of the Baptist church from his early life, that church owes much of its prosperity to his liberality and earnest christian work in the ranks of its membership and as deacon, a position he held at the time of his death. Generous to a fault, his home has for a long term of years been the happy gathering place of his children, children's children and countless hosts of warm and loving friends. No purer or better man ever lived in the city or county, and now that he has, at a ripe old age, entered into the eternal home all realize that he has not lived in vain. The best heritage ever left by a loving father to a family of worthy children is left by him in the record of a manly christian life. The AMERICAN unites with the whole city and county in extending sympathy to the members of his family in this hour of sorrow.
