Description	:	Sunday, January 31, marks the 92nd birthday anniversary of Daniel F. Pippinger, who has the distinction of being the only remaining Civil War veteran in Sanborn. During the past week, Mr. Pippinger was confined to his home for two days by illness, outside of that, he enjoys excellent health and makes his daily trip to town from his home, two blocks west of Main street. His 88th birthday was spent at the Hand hospital at Hartley, recuperating from a major abdominal operation. Mr. Pippinger was born at Goshen, Ind. Jan. 31, 1840. When 21 years old, he enlisted in the 21st Indiana Volunteers. Promotions came rapidly and he was a Second Lieutenant under Capt. A. W. Simmons, Co. A, First Regiment of Heavy Artillery when he received his honorable discharge from the army. At the close of the war he settled in Missouri and was married in 18&6 to Miss Inettie Owens, who died in December, 1908. For 62 years he made his home on a farm near Clarence, Mo. In 1914 he came to make his home at Sanborn, where he and his only daughter, Ann, maintain their home. He is the father of six sons, three of whom, Dave, Will and Neut, also live in Sanborn. Although advancing years, in appearance he seems as spry, alert and active as any man twenty years his junior. He looks after all his business affairs, is interested in state and national affairs, never misses reading his daily paper and can discuss the problems of the day and times with the best of them.
