Read More	Highland Recorder December 8, 1922 While engaged in digging a well for Kenny Simmons on Crab Run last Monday, Dan Wolf had perhaps the closest call of his life, if indeed, he escapes with his life, for when this is written the issue is still in doubt. He was working at a depth of 31 feet when a bucket of earth and stone on its way up became detached by the breaking of a piece of wire, and landed on him at the bottom of the well. Mr. Simmon's, in charge of the hoisting, yelled a warning as the wire gave-way, but Mr. Wolf did not under stand it and received the weight of bucket and contents on his head and shoulders. It is thought that he was bending forward at the time and received rather a glancing blow, which probably saved him from instant death of fatal injury. When the word reached McDowell it was understood to be a cave-in, and a number of men hastened to the scene and rendered assistance. We are informed that his physician has been unable to determine fully the extent of his injuries. The size of the “bucket” is not known, but usually such receptacles are box-shaped and have a capacity of from one to two bushels. The victim is a man past middle age, possibly sixty-five years old.
