Read More	Daniel Hager died at 80 years of age on March 4, 2016 surrounded by his family at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, North Dakota. Daniel was born May 19, 1935 to Sebastian and Tillie (Kraft) Hager in Minot, North Dakota. He grew up on the family farm near Karlsruhe, North Dakota. He graduated from Karlsruhe High School in 1953 and attended Minot State University. After receiving his teaching certificate, he went on to teach all twelve grades in a rural one-room school house for two years in the Karlsruhe area. He began working as a switchman for the Great Northern Railroad in 1956. He continued his 40-year career for the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad and retired as a brakeman in 1996. Dan married the love of his life, Bernardine Schmidt, at Blumenfeld Catholic Church near Orrin, North Dakota on August 31, 1960. They made their home in Minot, North Dakota and were married for 55 years. Dan was a proud member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where he served as an usher, the United Transportation Union Local #1059, Knights of Columbus 4894 and Eagles Aerie 2376, all of Minot. Dan enjoyed fishing, working around the yard, playing cards, and decorating the house with Christmas lights. He also enjoyed doing the Jumble Puzzle in the newspaper each morning at breakfast with Berny. He loved to play pinochle and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to play. In retirement, Dan and Berny enjoyed many bus tours around the United States and visiting with family, especially at the holidays when everyone was home. He was faithful and loved his family and his church. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and we will miss him dearly. Daniel is survived by his wife, Bernardine, three children; Belinda (Kevin) Selfors, Hayfield, MN; Mark (Deana) Hager, Bismarck, ND; Kevin (Deanna) Hager, Pembina, ND; five grandchildren, Benedict, Danielle, Ashton, Jessica, and Shane; one great-grandchild, Bailey; and one sister, Catherine (Isabell) Schaefer; many nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Tillie; a brother, James; and a nephew, Kenneth Hager. Thompsin-Larson Funeral Home
