Description	:	Dan J. Hofmann, 80, of Sterling, died Sunday, July 10, 1994, at his home. Visitation and viewing is today at Chaney-Walters Funeral Home with vigil service tonight at 7 p.m., also at the funeral home. Funeral is 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Blanco offièiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Hofmann was born Aug. 14, 1913, to George and Claudia Wierschim Hofmann in Iliff. He graduated from Padroni High School and then joined the U.S. Army. He was an aircraft mechanic. After the Army, he moved to Sterling and operated various businesses. First he opened a car dealership and then he started a carpet store. Mr. Hofmann worked at the carpet store until retiring in 1982. He married Alice Hecker Sept. 21, 1977, in Sterling. Mr. Hofmann was an avid pilot and active in aviation circles. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, 0X5 Pioneers, Silver Wings, Colorado Aviation Historical Society and a past member of the Flying Farmers. In 1980, the Journal Advocate did a profile on Mr. Hofmann and his passion for flying. The story told about how Mr. Hoffmann flew on many search and rescue missions for the Civil Air Patrol and how Hofmann was a major advocate for aviation safety.Mr. Hofmann was also a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Sterling Elks Lodge No. 1336. He is survived by his wife of Sterling; two brothers, Paul of Tallahasse, Fla., Cecil and wife Frances of Sterling; 14 nieces and nephews and 23 great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Hofmann was preceded in death by a brother, George, and a sister, Mary Louise. Memorial contribution may be made to St. Anthony's Church.
