Description	:	Daniel Jackson, Jr. was born September 10, 1829, near New Burlington, Ohio, to Daniel Jackson and Mary Hurley. His paternal grandparents were John Jackson and Bethena Reagan; his maternal grandfather was Cornelius Hurley. While still a baby, Daniel was taken to Rush County, Indiana, where his parents settled until his father's death in 1833. Daniel's mother was still living at that time. (New Burlington, which does not exist as such today, was... Read More	Daniel Jackson, Jr. was born September 10, 1829, near New Burlington, Ohio, to Daniel Jackson and Mary Hurley. His paternal grandparents were John Jackson and Bethena Reagan; his maternal grandfather was Cornelius Hurley. While still a baby, Daniel was taken to Rush County, Indiana, where his parents settled until his father's death in 1833. Daniel's mother was still living at that time. It is not known whether Mary returned to Ohio with her children, but shortly thereafter, the children were living with relatives in the area around New Burlington. (New Burlington, which does not exist as such today, was located near the confluence of three Ohio counties - Clinton, Greene and Warren.) About 1850, while still a young man, Daniel left Ohio for Tippecanoe County, Indiana, where he became a prosperous farmer. He married Harriet Weaver, daughter of Patrick Henry Weaver and Alice Dimmitt, on Feb. 24, 1853. During the Civil War he served with Co. F., 150th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Daniel and Harriet were the parents of 6 children: Evan, Luwila, Edward, William, Morton and John. William died as a small child. Although Daniel's gravestone inscription reads "1893", in reality Daniel died July 31, 1903. His death certificate and obituary both attest to this date. The reason the stone is in error is unknown. "The death of Daniel Jackson, one of the oldest citizens of Wayne Twp., occurred yesterday afternoon at his late home, two miles southwest of West Point. He had been ill for many months and death is attributed to cancer of the stomach." Lafayette Daily Courier Aug. 1, 1903
