In 1856, Daniel served in Sheffield's Co. A, 1st Bat. 2 Oregon Mounted Volunteers during the Indian Wars.

1900 U.S. Census for Floras Creek Prec., Curry Co., OR finds Daniel a widower, farmer & residing by himself.
Daniel applied for admission to the Oregon Soldiers Home in Roseburg, Oregon on Sept. 16, 1901 due to senility. He was 5'10.5" tall, had blue eyes, dark hair (?), was a farmer & a widower. He was admitted Feb. 14, 1902.
Daniel applied for a military pension on July 12, 1902.
1910 U.S. Census for West Roseburg Prec., Roseburg, Douglas Co., OR finds Daniel residing at the Oregon Soldier's Home.
Daniel died at the Oregon Soldier's Home on 25 Jan. 1918 according to his pension records. However, the Oregon Death Index shows he d. 24 Jan. 1918, Coos Co., OR.

He is 24, single, working as a laborer (census doesn't say what kind) & resides by himself. 1900, Chignik Bay, Alaska, he is married w/7 children & working as a fisherman. 1930 he resides in Unga Peninsula, Chignik Bay, Alaska & is a widower. He is retired. 2 sons live w/him; one is a fisherman working for a cannery, the other a laborer at the cannery. This area is part of the Aleutian Islands. His wife was a Native.
