Description	:	FORDYCE — Daniel L. Wiebelhaus, 86, of Fordyce died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery will be with military honors by Wynot American Legion Post 31 and the Legion Riders. Daniel Ludwig Wiebelhaus was born on Feb. 5, 1928, in Bow Valley to Fred and Teresa (Uhing) Wiebelhaus. He grew up in the St. James and Wynot area near Homewood Park. He served in the U.S. Army from April 24, 1946, to Sept. 5, 1946. He returned home to farm with his dad and then worked at Cudahy’s Packing Plant in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Mary R. Alvarez on June 24, 1952, at Wynot. They lived in Portland, Ore., for a year where Dan worked at the Oregon Steel Mill. They moved to Wynot where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. In 1963 they moved to a farm northwest of Fordyce and then moved into Fordyce in 1968. Dan worked for the Burbach Elevator in Crofton, drove a milk truck for Neu Cheese in Hartington and then worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads. His passion was building terraces and dams with heavy equipment, and his favorite saying was, “Go to work clean and come home dirty.” Dan was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce and the Wynot American Legion Post 31. He was a former member of the Cedar Catholic School Board. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending to his garden, hunting mushrooms and making wine. Dan is survived by his wife, Mary of Fordyce; 11 children and spouses, Daniel Jr. and Carla Wiebelhaus of Fredonia, Wis., Rodney and Cindy Wiebelhaus of Fordyce, Angie Schmidt of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Alan and Barbara Wiebelhaus of Manhattan, Kan., Therese Wiebelhaus of Jordan, Minn., Francine and Tom Wolff of Norfolk, Laurie and Allen Leise of Hartington, Robert and JoAnn Wiebelhaus of Fordyce, Michael and Julie Wiebelhaus of Norfolk, John and Sarah Wiebelhaus of Victoria, Texas, Bridget and Don Whitmire of Gilbert, Ariz.; 42 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and a sister, Rita Holcomb of Sioux City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jessica Wiebelhaus; three brothers, Herman, Frederick and an infant, John Wiebelhaus; seven sisters, Julia Ketter, Olivia Schieffer, Florentine Reifenrath, Edna Cook, Elsie Waddell, Agatha Kleinschmit and Dolores (Kopal) Hildahl. Pallbearers will be his six sons, Daniel Wiebelhaus Jr., Rodney Wiebelhaus, Alan Wiebelhaus, Robert Wiebelhaus, Michael Wiebelhaus and John Wiebelhaus. Norfolk Daily News
