Mr. Shirk, who was 86, died Sunday at Nelson Nursing Home at Fairfield. He had been in poor health several years and seriously ill three months. He was born May 3, 1874 near Fairfield and spent his boyhood in Pennsylvania. He returned with his parents to Fairfield but in young manhood lived in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas. For 30 years he farmed near Birmingham and had lived in Douds 14 years. He was a member of Christ Methodist Church here. On Sept. 8, 1904, he was married in Ottumwa to Minnie Johnson, who survives. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Kermit Plowman of Douds and Mrs. Carl Pieper of Oakdale; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Harold Harryman. Burial will be in Leando Cemetery. The family suggests memorial gifts to Christ Methodist Church.
