Description	:	D. M. Deane was born October 11, 1847, at Athol, Mass., and died Feb. 7, 1921, at his home in Valparaiso, at the age of 73 years, 4 mos. and 2 days. His early boyhood was spent in Wisconsin, where before he was 21, he learned mill-wright work under his father. He was married to Miss Mary Ann Bohrer, December 31, 1870. His early boyhood was spent in Wisconsin, where before he was 21, he learned mill-wright work under his father. He was married to Miss Mary Ann Bohrer, December 31, 1870. Ten children were born to this union, of whom seven are living, Harry L. Deane, the eldest son, was killed in an auto accident December 13, 1920. Those living are, Mrs. Ethel Emerick, of Geneva, Nebr., Jay Carl, and Myron, Lincoln; Mrs. Ruby Nichols, Mrs. G. W. Acklam and Cecil Deane of Valparaiso. Mr. Deane came to Nebraska in 1871, and engaged in building mills and mill dams. Most of these years he has had his home in Valparaiso, where he built a mill in 1874, and later on bought it. He also built himself a commodious home on Valparaiso and was for many years prominent in business affairs of the town, serving many years on the school board. He was not only prominent in his home town but was president of the Nebraska Millers Association for eight years, until ill health forced him to resign. He was called the "Dean of Nebraska Millers". Mr. Dean has been in poor health for several years, and since the death of his wife less than a year ago, he has failed very fast, and his death was not altogether a surprise to his friends. The funeral services were held at the Deane home, conducted by Dr. M. A. Bullock, of Lincoln, to whom he was a close friend, and the remains were laid by those of his wife in the Valparaiso cemetery. By terms of the late D. M. Deane's will, which was settled in court last week Cecil F. Deane becomes owner of the Valparaiso flour mills. Mr. Deane has been acting manager for over two years past, during the protracted illness of his father, and is thorough in the business. He is an energetic, progressive business man and a first-class miller. The Valparaiso flour mill is among the very best, and Mr. Deane will put forth his best effort to furnish all his old patrons and extend his business into new fields. VALPARAISO VISITOR
