Daniel married Jane Gouty 4 Jan 1844 in Vermillion County, Indiana. ________________ Hoosier State Newspaper Newport (Indiana) Wednesday, July 26, 1899 Daniel Shute, one of the oldest settlers of Vermillion County, has been called from labor to reward. He passed peacefully away on July 17, 1899. He was within a few days of being 79 years old, having been born August 22, 1820, and has been a resident of Highland Township for 70 years. His parents came from Ohio and settled in Highland Township, Vermillion County, in September 1839, where he has lived continuously up to his death. He was married to Miss Jane Gouty January 4, 1844. To this union were born 7 children - 6 of whom are yet living. As a citizen, Daniel Shute was loyal and steadfast; as a husband he was true and affectionate; as a parent he was kind and indulgent; as a friend and neighbor he was ever ready to lend a helping hand. A plain, honest, and unassuming man respected by all who knew him. He joined the Baptist Church about 4 years ago, and has given many bright evidences of a hope in the life beyond the grave.
