Union, Sep 10 (By AP) - Daniel Mobley, 19 year old son of Sam Mobley of the Goshen Hill township, died at a local hospital early today of injuries he suffered late yesterday when a light roadster, said to have been driven by P M Cummings, 20, of Whitmire, struck him as he stepped from a road truck pulling a scraper. Special to The State Whitmire, Sept 10 - Daniel Mobley, 17 year old high school boy, was fatally injured in front of his home, three miles from here, on the Union road yesterday afternoon when struck by a Ford touring car driven by Roland Cummings, sawyer, as the youth was dismounting from a road truck on which he had ridden home from school. Cummings was arrested and taken to the Union jail immediately after the accident. Young Mobley was rushed to the Union hospital where it was found he was suffering from a fractured skull at the base of the brain and a broken leg. The dead boy was a member of the ninth grade at the Whitmire high school. He was returning home yesterday afternoon when he caught a ride on an army tractor pulling a road scraper. As he dismounted in front of his house the light touring car, going in the same direction as the heavy machine came by and crashed into him. Cummings is employed by Tidmarsh-Gilliam of Whitmire and lives here. In the car also were Ed Stroud and Clyde Thompson, it is said. A deputy sheriff from Union came to Lake City and arrested Cummings, taking him to the Union jail.
