Johnson, 75, chairman of the board of directors of the Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday after a brief illness at his home in Agency. Mr. Johnson had been a director of the Farmers & Merchants Bank since it was organized in 1917, and had served as chairman of the board since June 10, 1941. He had also served the bank as a vice president. He had been active in Republican politics in the county for many years and was elected to the Wapello County Board of Supervisors, a position he held from 1927 through 1929. He had served as a school director in his own district for 30 years. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Agency Methodist Church, Olive Branch Lodge A.F.&A.M. in Agency, and the consistory and shrine at Davenport. A lifelong resident of Wapello County, he was born October 12, 1876, the son of Elijah and Priscilla Johnson on a farm near Agency. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nettie Johnson, and the following children: Miss Ruth Johnson, at home; Mrs. Beulah Kibler, Agency; Rex Johnson, Agency; and Charlie M. Johnson, Ottumwa Route 7; and by two grandchildren, Judy Johnson and Neil Kibler. One son, Ernest, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Agency Methodist Church in charge of the Rev. Robert Parris, with Masonic services at the grave in Agency Cemetery. The casket will be taken from the Priester Funeral Home to the church at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Pallbearers will be Earl Wimmer, Dr. James Miller, Bruce Giltner, Ralph Giltner, Grover Elsensohn, and Clell Johnson. The Farmers & Merchants Bank will be closed at noon Friday in order that bank personnel may attend the funeral of Mr. Johnson.
