In Daniel's obituary, which I have transcribed below, his name was shown as Daniel M. James. Daniel's death record may now be viewed in familysearch.org, and his middle initial has been transcribed as M. on his death record as well. Thomas Orville James married Mary Cathey on February 5, 1871, in Davis County, Iowa. Thomas and Mary are shown in the 1880 Census in Drakesville, Davis County, Iowa, with their two children, Alice, age 8, and Daniel W., age 6. --------------- Obituary From Ottumwa Semi-Weekly Courier, Tuesday, November 20, 1917: The death of Daniel M James occurred Saturday evening east of the city after an extended illness. He was born August 9, 1874 and was 43 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Isabel, two children, Adrain [sic] and Daniel, and one sister Mrs. Alice Kelley. The funeral was held at Daggett's undertaking parlors this afternoon at 2 p. m. conducted by Rev. M. E. Reusch of the Willard Street M. E. church.
