Darell died Thursday, November 20,2014, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota. Darell Delmar Krupicka was born on June 29th, 1948, to Delmar and Marjorie (Frank) Krupicka in a farmhouse in Niobrara, Nebraska. Darell passed on November 20th, 2014 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota at the age of 66 years, four months, and 22 days. When he was a young boy, Darell grew up on the Krupicka farm, located at the mouth of the Verdigre Creek, four miles south of Niobrara. He attended rural school District #64, south of the farm, about four miles north of Verdigre. As Darell was growing up he helped do the farm chores. Some of the activities he enjoyed doing were trapping, being a member of the Sparta Sparklers 4-H Club and the ZCBJ Lodge in Niobrara, and attending Boy Scouts in Niobrara. When he was eight or nine years old he helped his dad and uncle Elmer Krupicka plant an orchard of apple and cherry trees. This created the fall season activity of picking apples and making apple cider and selling the apples to the people. There was always something to do on the farm. Darell’s dad always had a reward at the end of the haying season because that is when Trip Fever set in and off they would go on a family road trip and camping. In his continuing education, Darell graduated from Niobrara High School in 1966. His higher education was at Northeast Junior College in Norfolk, Nebraska, where he earned his Associates Degree in general education. Later he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, where he studied Forestry. Darell worked in Columbus, Nebraska, building harvest driers and other manufacturing jobs; in Lincoln, Nebraska, at Russell Stover Candy Company; and near Spencer, Iowa, in a beef packing company. During this time his mother passed away and Darell decided to enter the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In his time in the Army Darell was stationed in Germany and at the White Sands Missle Range in southern New Mexico. During his service at White Sands, he was severly injured in a automobile accident that changed his life for the duration. Darell came home to live with his dad and brothers on the family farm. He spent most of the rest of his life around Niobrara and went with his dad on a number of motorcycle trips to the Western United States. In Darell's adult life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Darell moved into the town of Niobrara in 2009, but looked forward to his daily visits to the family farm place which he owned south of town. Darell enjoyed driving his red Ford pickup around the area and taking time to visit with people. Darell is survived by his brothers, Gregory and Dianne Krupicka of Loveland, Colorado, Jesse and Peggy Krupicka of Verdigre, Nebraska, Steven Krupicka and significant other Dora Garcia of Medford, Oregon, and Calvin and Diane Krupicka of Verdigre; as well as nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
