Description	:	Darlene Alice Raysby, 80, died Friday, November 21 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Darlene Alice Raysby was born September 1, 1934 to Thafel and Mary (Armfield) Fuerst on a farm west of Armour. She attended rural grade school two miles from home and graduated from Armour High School in 1954. She worked at the Charles Mix County News where she ran the linotype machine and set up the type for the weekly newspaper. Read More	Darlene Alice Raysby, 80, died Friday, November 21 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Darlene Alice Raysby was born September 1, 1934 to Thafel and Mary (Armfield) Fuerst on a farm west of Armour. She attended rural grade school two miles from home and graduated from Armour High School in 1954. She worked at the Charles Mix County News where she ran the linotype machine and set up the type for the weekly newspaper. Darlene went to Southern State Teachers College in Springfield and graduated in 1956 with a two year elementary teaching degree. She taught at a rural school in Charles Mix County for two years, began teaching 1st and 2nd grade in Avon in 1957 and kindergarten in 1958. She was united in marriage to Neil Raysby on June 1, 1958 at the Reformed Church in Delmont. Darlene continued to teach in Avon for two more years while they lived on a farm between Avon and Tyndall. In 1961, they bought and moved to a farm in Moore Township in Charles Mix County. Darlene helped Neil on the farm and later taught at several country schools before being hired as the 1st grade teacher in the Geddes School system. Darlene and Neil moved from the farm into Geddes in 2001. After retiring from teaching, Darlene worked for the state as a Home Health Worker for over 10 years. She helped many elderly take care of themselves right in their home. After retiring from Home Health, she kept busy as a teacher's aide and E-Mentor teacher at the Geddes School until the school closed in 2007. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Geddes where she was Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and belonged to the Methodist Women and Ruth's Circle. She was also an active member of the Geddes Legion Auxiliary. Darlene enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Darlene went to her heavenly home on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Tim Fuerst.
