Harlan (Iowa) News Advertiser Friday May 16, 2003 page 9A Darlene Escher, 58 August 3, 1944 - April 16, 2003 HARLAN — Darlene Ann Escher, daughter of Walter and Pauline Green Escher, was born Aug. 3, 1944, on a farm in Fairview Township, Shelby County, and was one of three children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Tennant Methodist Church. The Escher family moved twice before finally settling down on the farm, in 1949, that she still resided on. She attended grade school through her freshmen year in Tennant, with her last three years of school in Shelby and graduated with the class of 1962. May 28, 1962, she was employed at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in the business offices. She was employed there until her retirement four years ago, but remained on an on-call basis until she could no longer work because of illness. She died April 16, 2003, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital at age 58 years, eight months and 15 days. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Pauline, and one brother, Henry, who died in 1986. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Escher (Donna) of Harlan; nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held April 18, 2003, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home with Pastor James Boardman officiating. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery. . .
