Darlene was born October 25, 1939, in Allen, NE to Victor and Edna (Smith) Lamm. Her father worked at Lou's Thrifty Way shortly after moving to Norfolk, NE. in the late 1940's. Darlene graduated from Norfolk (NE.) High School in 1957. She briefly attended Yakima College in Washington, before returning to Norfolk, where she married Dean Pennington, who, at the time, was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, S.D. After Dean retired from active service in 1973, they moved to Ord, NE. They finally settled back in Norfolk in 1976, where she owned a ceramic shop, was a foster parent trainer for the state of Nebraska, and, foremost, was a homemaker while her husband worked at Dale Electronics. Darlene was an active member of the First Baptist Church as the church clerk and also was the AWANA commander, belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution as a past regent of the Nancy Gary Chapter, and recently helped organize the 55th reunion of the Class of 1957. Her interests included family, sewing, antique shopping, and reading Agatha Christie and other mystery novels. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members and her community at large. Darlene is survived by: husband of 53 years, Dean Pennington; sister, Sandy Mittelstaedt and her husband, Gene; daughter and her spouse, Kathi and Ron Lenser, son and his spouse, Todd and Sharon Pennington; foster son and his spouse, Andy and Cyndi Miller; and 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Darlen was preceded in death by: sister, Veryle Schwede; two infant brothers; son, Scott Pennington and grandson Scotty Pennington. Burial was in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, NE.
