Darlene was a resident of Knight’s Templar Nursing Home in Paxton, Ill., at the time of her death. Darlene was born in Stromsburg. Read More	Darlene Van Boening - Aug. 3, 2014 Darlene F. (Larson) Van Boening, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. Darlene was a resident of Knight’s Templar Nursing Home in Paxton, Ill., at the time of her death. Darlene was born in Stromsburg. She was the oldest of four children born to Charlie and Hattie Lind Larson. Darlene attended a one-room school in rural Polk County before attending Stromsburg High School. She graduated from Fremont High School and then attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. Darlene Larson married Grant Van Boening in Fremont on Sept. 16, 1945. The couple had two children, Lois and John, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Zachary. They lived in several communities throughout Nebraska where Grant served as a Lutheran minister. Darlene was an organist and secretary in several churches. She worked in banks in Fremont, Schuyler, and Sioux City, Iowa. Darlene worked as a school librarian in Grand Island, the assistant to the administrator of the Great Plains Regional Medical Center and the assistant to the administrator of the regional Red Cross office in North Platte. Darlene was a devoted wife and a nurturing mother. She enjoyed baking, reading and music. She loved to sing and sang in several choirs and small groups. Darlene is survived by her daughter, Lois Wilken (and her husband, Royce Wilken) of Champaign, Ill. her son, John Van Boening (and his wife, Sue Thompson Van Boening) of St. Cloud, Minn.; her grandsons, Tyler Wilken of Tucson, Ariz., and Zachary Wilken of Irvine, Calif.; and her brother, Dale Larson (and his wife, Jean Cowden Larson) of Omaha. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Van Boening; her parents, Charles Larson and Hattie Lind Larson; her brother, Raymond Larson; and her sister, Delores Larson Scanlon. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at Braman Mortuary, 6505 S. 144th St., in Omaha. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the mortuary. The interment will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 18 at Calvary Cemetery in Shell Creek. Memorials can be made to Midland University. Gracious lady with the beautiful smile.
