Darlene Faye Twedt, 64, of West Burlington, died at 3:30 AM Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at her home.
Born September 23, 1948, in Aplington, IA, she was the daughter of Bennie Edward and Loretta Sents Heikens. On December 19, 1970, she married Allen L. Twedt in Aplington.
Darlene's walk with the Lord fueled her compassion and care for others, and was demonstrated by her 40+ years of service as a registered nurse for Great River Medical Center, where she was the Director of Women and Family Center.

Darlene Faye Twedt, 64, of West Burlington, died at 3:30 AM Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at her home.
Born September 23, 1948, in Aplington, IA, she was the daughter of Bennie Edward and Loretta Sents Heikens. On December 19, 1970, she married Allen L. Twedt in Aplington.
Darlene's walk with the Lord fueled her compassion and care for others, and was demonstrated by her 40+ years of service as a registered nurse for Great River Medical Center, where she was the Director of Women and Family Center.
She graduated from Aplington High School, received her R.N. degree from Mounds Midway in St. Paul, MN, and her B.A. degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb.
She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, where her Christ-filled spirit served for over 25 years as a Sunday School Teacher, participated in the bell choir, and served on the Christian Ed Board. She loved and cherished spending time with family through traveling, gardening, and Iowa Hawkeye sports, and also enjoyed painting, canning, antique refinishing and making crafts, especially as they related to Christmas.
Survivors include her husband, Allen; two sons, Nathan (Sandra) Twedt of Valparaiso, IN, and Aaron Twedt of Des Moines, IA; one daughter, Nichole Twedt of Des Moines, IA; two grandchildren, Jenna and Alyssa Twedt, her father, Bennie Edward Heikens of Wellsburg, IA; one brother, Kent Heikens of Ames, IA; two sisters, Eunice Bassler of Ames, IA, and Jan Behrends of Waverly, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her grandparents.
Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Mrs. Twedt will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 15, 2013, at Oak Street Baptist Church with Reverends Gary Karas and Joey Link officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall of Oak Street Baptist Church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church and Great River Friends. |
