Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary in Lakeport, Calif. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Jefferson, at a later date. Read More	JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Darlene (Allard) LaCroix, 81, of Lucerne, Calif., formerly of Jefferson, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at her home following a long illness. Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary in Lakeport, Calif. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Jefferson, at a later date. Darlene was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Jefferson to Clement and Melvina Allard and grew up in this area. She moved to California to marry Ernest LaCroix, who was stationed in Sacramento, where they were married on Jan. 15, 1942. After two of their five children were born, the couple moved back to the Sioux City area to raise their children. Darlene was active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riverside and later in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. They returned to California in 1969 and moved to Lucerne in 1989. Darlene had a beautiful open spirit and a warm smile that touched many hearts through the years, even during her illness. She will be missed. Survivors include three sons, James and his wife, Nancy, of Roseville, Calif., Gerald of Forest Knolles, Calif. and Russel of Roseville; two daughters, Corrine and her husband, Bernard Rourke, of Lucerne and Susan LaCroix of Fairfax, Calif.; a brother, Edward Allard, and his wife, Lois, of Lodi, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
