Description	:	Darlene Jeanette Maher, 68,of Morristown, who had battled cancer for five years, lost that battle when she died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. Active in her community and church through the years, her passing is keenly felt by many. She was born Aug. 11, 1939, in Mobridge to Otto and Helen (Eisenbeis) Lueder. Her father worked as a foreman on the Milwaukee Railroad and it meant frequent moves for the family. Darlene attended schools in Mahto and McIntosh, and graduated from McLaughlin High School. She was Corson County Deputy Auditor until her marriage to James "Jim" Maher on June 14, 1968. Following her marriage she was a secretary for Parks Telephone Company in Grant and Sioux counties. Darlene and Jim ranched north of Morristown raising Angus cattle and it was where they raised their children, Steve, Dennis, Craig, Melissa, Jeremy and Dustin. Darlene was secretary/treasurer of the Hanna School District, and for the Morristown Cemetery. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and kept the church records for Sacred Heart, St. Bonaventure's and St. Michael's Catholic churches. Surviving family members include her husband, Jim, of Morristown; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Robert Hood of Black Hawk; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Steve and Elizabeth Maher of Nevada City, Calif., Dennis Maher of Morristown, Craig and Hope Maher of McLaughlin, Jeremy and Stefanie Maher of Morristown, and Dustin and Sara Maher of Piedmont; 10 grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Joan Lueder of Mandan, N.D.; and two nephews, Mike and Jason Lueder. Her parents preceded her in death. Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene was celebrated Friday, Sept. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morristown. Father Brian Fawcett was celebrant and was assisted by Deacon Bill Dustman. Special music was provided by Leslie Niederman, organist. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at Morristown with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.evansonjensenfuneralhome.com.
