She went peacefully in the early morning as she slept. Darlene was known by many names --"Babe", "Mom", "Gramie", "Grams", "Mimi", "Dollar-Bill", among them -- but most people knew her as Dollie. Dollie Cribari was born on July 6th, 1925 to Fredrick and Laura Bertram, in the little farming community of Herman, Minnesota. Her father was a farmer there, where Dollie spent her early years. The Depression hit the family hard, and Fred gave up farming and moved the family to Petaluma, California. Dollie graduated from Petaluma High School in 1944, and shortly thereafter moved to Colusa with her father, her brother, and her sister. On April 21, 1945, Dollie married her husband John Cribari. On May 28 of the next year, the couple welcomed their only child, Connie Joyce, into the world. In 1954, Dollie began working at McNary Moore Funeral Service as a secretary. She worked her way up to become a funeral director and retired in 2006 after 52 years of employment there. Dollie loved to dance. She and John used to swing away to Glenn Miller's "In The Mood," a favorite song of theirs. She loved to camp in the mountains with her family and friends, at such destinations as Child's Meadows and Lake Tahoe. She liked to gamble, and in her later years took trips to the casino with her good friend Mary Lou Kittle on Sundays, before church. The pair would eat breakfast, play the machines, and Mary Lou would drop her off just before the service started. She loved to go out to eat and knew the value of a good, hot cup of coffee. She relished her shopping trips to Chico with her niece, Sandy Detlefsen. She loved the card game Nickel-Knock, and played many-a-game with her coworkers at McNary Moore. Dollie is survived by her daughter, Connie Driffill; son-in-law, David Driffill; grandchildren John and Charm Simlick; and her six great grandchildren Joseph, Jayda, Johnathon, and Jocelyn Simlick, and Brian and David Pearson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years John Cribari, her sister Ida Lou Scarr, and her brother James R. Bertram. Published in Appeal Democrat on Dec. 20, 2013
