Description	:	Darlene M. Sickels, 77, of Dickens, IA, formerly of Waukon, IA, died Monday, February 18, 2013, at her home in Dickens. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25th, at 11:00 AM at Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville, IA, with Pastor Dale Hodges officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Darlene Mavis Sickels was born April 4, 1935, to Fred and Ruby (Jones) Snitker in Ion, IA. When she was in first grade, her family purchased and moved to her grandpa and grandma Snitkers' 196 acre farm, located four miles south of Rossville, IA. Darlene attended schools in Ion and Waterville, IA, and graduated from Waterville High School. She met Gene Sickels in August 1951, and they were married on April 6, 1953. For the next seven years, they lived in several places in Iowa including: Waukon, Waterville, Ottumwa, Harpers Ferry, and Manchester. In 1960, Darlene and Gene started farming on a rented farm near Waterville. Two years later, they bought a dairy farm two miles west of Waterville. They sold the farm in 1979, and moved to Waukon. After Gene passed away in November 2005, Darlene continued to live in Waukon for another 19 months before selling her home and furniture; she moved to Dickens, IA, and lived on an acreage with her daughter and son-in-law. Darlene was a member of the Waterville Lutheran Church and was active in the Mary Ruth Circle, and held the office of Treasurer for a while; she was also a member of the WELCA. Darlene enjoyed sudoko, playing cards, putting puzzles together, reading, and going to the Wild Rose. She and Gene spent several winters together in Arizona and Nevada. Darlene enjoyed special times with her family, and was a very kind, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Darlene is survived by her three children: Gary (Bonnie) Sickels of Postville, IA, Dennis (Melanie) Sickels of Marshalltown, IA, and Linda (Lenny) Teepe of Dickens; seven grandchildren: Katie (Todd) Burrichter, Kendal (Ivy) Sickels, Karisa Sickels, Stephanie (Eric) Schumacher, Kristi (Juvenio) Palma, Brad Sickels, and Casey (Darcy) Teepe; 10 great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Lyla Burrichter, Ryan and Lauren Schumacher, Madison Palma, Corbin, Baker, Ryzer, Journye Teepe, and Saige; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Kuhse of Postville, and Alvina Sickels of Waukon; three brothers-in-law: Cecil (Agnes) Sickels of Barneveld, WI, Oakley (Joyce) Sickels of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Wayne Genz of Lansing, IA; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene; her parents; grandson Corey Gene Teepe; brother Donald Snitker; sister Loretta Mae Snitker; and nephew Steven Snitker. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Honorary casketbearers are Darlene's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers are Bruce Snitker, Russell Snitker, Laverne Snitker, Arlyn Snitker, Monte Dundee, and Dennis Turner.
