Read More	Darnelle Braunsroth August 22, 2019 Darnelle E. (Thunker) Braunsroth, 83 of Denton NE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2019. She lived her childhood in Crofton, NE. During her high school years, she waited tables at the local restaurant before and after school, and remembers waiting on those dam people (construction workers building the Gavins Point Dam). Merlyn (Mike) Braunsroth first met Darnelle at a dance (this was the second time he saw her). He asked her to dance and they have been dancing ever since. They were married on August 10, 1953 and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They took over the Braunsroth Homestead farm in 1955 by Lindy, NE. The farm dried out four years in a row and their only financial resource was Darnelle's help with milking up to 12 cows twice a day by hand. Therefore, in November of 1959 they moved to Pleasant Dale, NE. Darnelle's life was full and well-lived which revolved around the many activities of her family, friends, church, and community. When the youngest child started school, Darnelle started working part-time jobs: gathering eggs at the nearby chicken farm, as a banquet waitress at the Hilton Hotel in Lincoln, preparing meals for School Sisters of Christ the King. In her spare time, Darnelle kept busy knitting, crocheting, sewing, making quilts and afghans. Her baking skills were well known, especially her gooey rolls and decorated cakes. Her creativity was shown in the crafts she made and the Halloween costumes. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and playing KENO. She was an active member of the St. Mary's Altar Society in Denton and helped to form CCD classes for St. Mary's Parish. Darnelle was a member of the Sweatshop (a quilting group), T.O.P.S. and the American Legion Auxiliary. Darnelle also participated in the Friendship Force. She served on the Milford School Board for six years. She also volunteered as a 4-H leader, in the gift shop at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital and with FoodNet in the community of Denton, NE. Darnelle was preceded in death by her parents, William and Leona Thunker; her brother, Jerry Thunker and brother-in-law, Joel Phipps. Darnelle is survived by her husband Mike Braunsroth; children: Rodney (wife Krista), Pleasant Dale NE; Gail, Denton NE; Sister Anne Joelle, Lincoln NE, Bill (wife Sue), Loveland CO; Steve, Lincoln NE and Daryl (wife Virginia), Wahoo NE; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters LaVonne (husband Franny) Mueller, Crofton NE and DeeAnn Phipps, Omaha NE; brother Verne (wife Lorrie) Thunker, Kalispell MT; sister-in-law Georgie Thunker, Yankton SD; many nieces and nephews. The Rosary will be Tuesday, August 27th at 7:00 pm with visitation from 5:00-7:00 pm; and a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 28th at 11:00 am. Both will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Denton. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to School Sisters of Christ the King.
