Description	:	WW11 Vet Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Thursday, May 31, 1951 Word of the death of their son, Seaman Darold Dean Keller, has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Ray W. Keller of Phillips. Seaman Keller died Tuesday night in the naval hospital at San Diego, Cal., from injuries he had received in a car-truck collision near there. Accompanied by a military escort, Seaman Keller's body is being returned to Grand Island for funeral services. The Livingston-Sondermann funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Donald Dean Keller was born June 15, 1930, on a farm near Giltner. The family resided during his childhood in Hamilton county but moved in 1939 to Phillips where he attended high school. He was active in sport activities at Phillips High school and was a member of the basketball, track and baseball teams. After leaving school, he was employed in various jobs until he entered the service of the M. Shaeffer Furnace Company of Grand Island. He entered the navy Jan. 17, 1951. He had completed his boot training at the San Diego Naval base and was enrolled in a further course of study when he was fatally injured. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of St. Paul's English Lutheran church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Frymire, Grand Island, and Miss Shirley Keller, Phillips; and his grandparents, Mrs. Cora Keller, Doniphan, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mapes, Phillips. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Frank Keller.
