Description	:	Darrell B. "Casey" Caswell, 90, of Cairo passed from this life Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island. He was a loving father, grandfather and caring friend to many. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cairo United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ben Loos officiating. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Casey was born March 16, 1924, in Gothenburg, the son of George & Melissa K. (Courtright) Caswell. He grew up and received his education in Gothenburg, graduating from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1942. He entered the United States Army on March 23, 1943, serving in France and Germany during World War II with the 253rd Infantry. Upon honorable discharge in 1946, he moved to Cairo, where he purchased and operated the Cairo Lumber Co. for 38 years. He also worked for Ag Services, retiring in 1994. On Dec. 25, 1947, he proposed to Mary Jane Boesen and they were married in May 1948. To this union were born four children, Teri of Eaton, Colo., Barb and husband, Joel Engdahl, of Ogallala, Doug of Shelburne Falls, Mass., and Jan and husband, Tim Wiens, of Westminister, Colo. Jane preceded him in death in July 1977. On Sept. 30, 1978, he married Rhoda (Hallstead) Larsen of Ogallala and welcomed her daughter, Becky, and husband, Jim Plate, into the family. For many years he and Rhoda enjoyed traveling by RV, visiting beautiful parts of the country and gathering antiques for their shop. Rhoda preceded him in death this past September 2013. Casey was an AVID Husker fan along with having a passion for golf. He loved taking a dollar off his buddies on the course and was very proud of the fine course in Cairo. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing in his free time, especially with family. Casey served his community in many ways, as a member of the Cairo and Centura Boards of Education, a lifelong member of the Cairo United Methodist Church, a Past Worthy Patron of OES Chapter 142, Past Worshipful Master of Cairo Masonic Lodge 324, and Past Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel 64 Ravenna. Other memberships include VFW Post 5820, American Legion Post 333, Saddle Club and the Elks Club. He was completing his 67th year on the Hall County Veterans Service Board at the time of his passing, and served as the Sergeant at Arms for many years at the Memorial Day Services in Cairo. His surviving family includes his children and his grandchildren, Krista (Engdahl) and husband, Jeremy Roebke, of Lincoln, Katie (Engdahl) and husband, Ben Loos, of Lincoln, Lindsey (Wiens) and husband, Vandy Sears, of Richmond, Texas, Jordan Wiens of Broomfeild, Colo., Michael Plate of Palm Desert, Calif., Megan (Plate) and husband, Jeff Alsop of Grapevine, Texas, and Dan Plate of Houston, Texas. Great-grandchildren include Kamdyn and Noah Roebke, Abel Loos, Reagan and Makenna Sears, and Lily Alsop. Also preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Horace and Leonard Caswell; and one sister, Lila Hollaway.
