Read More	ALBANY--Darrell Lee West of 5011 Factory Road, retired Albany postmaster and the village's first fire chief, died Sunday evening, March 17, 1996, at Overbrook Center, Middleport. He was 75. He was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Albany, son of the late William L. and Hattie Marie Bobo West. Mr. West retired as postmaster after 31 years with the postal service. He served as the first fire chief of the Albany Volunteer Fire Department. An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He was a member of Albany Masonic Lodge 723 F&AM, a charter member of Albany Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9893 and a lifetime member of Athens K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion. He was a life member of Southeastern Ohio Officials Association and a member of Disabled American Veterans. Mr. West was also a member of the Athens County Shrine Club, Aladdin Temple and ARABA Temple of Ft. Myers, Fla., a past deputy grand master of the Ohio Masonic Lodge and a charter member and past president of the Bonita Springs, Fla., Shrine Club. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Clark West; two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Debi, and Terry and Cheri, all of Albany; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Randy Pierce of Albany; six grandchildren; Travis, Kelly, Holly and Heather West and Michael and Stephanie Pierce; three step-grandchildren, Cassie Sedwick and Morgan and Emily Elliott; a step great-grandchild, Corey Sedwick; two sisters, Evelyn Hooper of Albany and Frances Keogh of Dayton; and two brothers, Gene of Albany and Lawrence of Tipp City. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph West; and three sisters, Mae Radford, Winifred Hooper and Madge Chesser. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with H. Willard Love officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Albany Masonic Lodge 723 will conduct services at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Albany Volunteer Fire Department or Athens County Visiting Nurses Association.
