His dear friend/adopted cousin/sister Mel, her husband, daughter Hikao & granddaughter Cheyanne were at his side until the end. Cremation has taken place, interred will be at a later date. Darwin was born in Hazen, ND, February 22, 1941 to Harold E. Mott and Gladyce Tysver Mott. He spent his early years in Beulah, ND, as his dad worked in a coal mine. When the mine closed, the Motts moved to Killdeer, ND where DK graduated from Killdeer High in 1959. DK joined the US Navy in 1959 attending boot camp and Yeoman "A" school in San Diego, CA. He was posted to the following duty stations throughout his career: NAS Moffett Field, CA, USS Midway CV-41, USS Ranger, VQ-1 NAS Brunswick, ME., Iceland, Japan and the Pentagon, Washington, DC. He retired in 1984 with 24 years of service as a Yeoman First Class Petty Officer. After retiring Darwin moved to Kennewick, WA, residing with family there. After joining AA his life took on a new & most enjoyable turn, he celebrated 26 years of sobriety. He worked as a cook for B&J concessions for a couple years, and then worked for Toys R Us, a job he really enjoyed. When he finally decided to "really retire" he spent his time with family & friends, traveling to ND, or "playing the ponies" & taking some short & very enjoyable Casino trips. Darwin, or Dob, as he was known in the ND family, usually spent a couple weeks there with his aunt and cousin every summer. Darwin's caring nature was well illustrated when his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he cared for her until her passing, also, in 2005 he went to help care for his Aunt Betty for more than a month after her 7 week hospital stay. His patient care was instrumental in getting her back on her feet for the last 6 years of her life. Always lending a helping hand or a wise comment, DK will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his cousins Duane Tysver, Hazen, ND, Jim and Jean Tysver, Artesia, ND, Allen and Peg Sutherland, Williston, SC, Scott and Judy Sutherland, Fremont, CA, Dianne Gary Sutherland, Charleston, SC, Kari and Steve Huber, Hazen, ND and Joel Pfliger, Stanton, ND. Mel Doak Bultena, Kennewick, WA, Trena Bultena & family, Cowiche, WA, Hikao Hansen & family, Kennewick, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his cousins Keith and Jerry Tysver and many aunts and uncles. Memorial services will be held Friday April 20, 2012 at the Sports Page in Kennewick at 6:30, followed by a no host Remembrance at 7:00pm.
